Summer Clutches: The How, What & Wear...
The perfect clutch adds a chic finish to a polished look. Typically paired with dressier outfits clutches have to serve two purposes: they should not encumber your ensemble and should be big enough to hold your essentials. The size of your clutch and its closing mechanism are also important. Too small and it looks like you're carrying a wallet. Zip closures that are too clunky or not well-hidden can also look a bit like you're carrying around your checkbook. Ideally a clutch should be large enough to hold a cell phone, lipstick, powder/mirror, keys and a few other essentials; the most flattering closers are top folding styles or top clasp closures. So what about the warmer months? In spring and summer your clutch should be in a fabric or material typically associated with warm weather, like raffia or cotton - in a cheery color. Here are a few ideas:
These colorful raffia clutches by Mad Imports from Endless have a festive feel and are
perfect to pair with breezy dresses and sandals.
Where to wear? Beach party
These whimsical leather clutches from Orla Kiely are perfectly coordinated with the fun prints used in the Spring/Summer collection. Leather during warmer months seems more appropriate when the colors are lighter; like the cocoa colored clutch (far left), an alternative to the traditional dark brown leather; & the cream clutch (right) both of which are accented with leather cut-outs of Orla Kiely's signature flower pattern.
I love the patchwork pairing of mix-and-match colorful fabrics in these clutches by DrikaB. The little details, like the felt leaves attached to the zipper and leather bird detail on the front are guaranteed compliment magnets. The little hemp wrist strap make these a cinch to carry. Where to wear? Outdoor concert
I really love this free-spirited tie-dye clutch from Club Monaco. The wooden clasp handle makes it less Woodstock and more Newport Beach. Where to wear? Summer Music Festival
