Anthropologie's Little Library
One of my favorite yet unexpected things to pick up from the neighborhood Anthropologie are books. Like the rest of the world, I usually get most of my books, if not all, from Amazon. But lately Anthropologie has had a few books that have proven to be a bit hard to find. Like "Vera: The Art And Life Of An Icon" which chronicles the life of artist, designer and entrepreneur Vera Nuemann. Also, "Etcetera: Creating Beautiful Interiors With The Things You Love." Both of these were at one point, not available on Amazon. Not only are these two books inspiring but they just beautiful books to hold and experience; an experience e-readers will undoubtedly struggle to duplicate.
But my most recent and favorite find on the overcrowded tables at Anthro was the brilliant "This Is..." series from Miroslav Sasek who died in 1980. He was a prolific painter and illustrator who created a series of children's books around mid-century, with the first being "This is Paris" in 1958. I find his use of color and unique illustrative style very inspiring. These books are timeless works of art and in my opinion, a must have for any bookshelf:
