Vintage Americana

During a post-brunch stroll through Seattle's Ballard neighborhood this past Sunday, I came across a new Seattle gem:  The Fieldhouse. I was instantly transported to the past - to a simpler time. It had vintage Americana charm. The Fieldhouse is a small store; and it's not so much a boutique but more of a mercantile. You could wile away the better part of an afternoon perusing their mixture of modern clothing and vintage inspired knickknacks. There aren't many places where you can pick up a pair of RVCA jeans, a plaid shirt and Diptyque perfume in one shopping trip. Here is a collection of items spotted at The Fieldhouse and a few things inspired by my trip there:

The clothing selection for women at The Fieldhouse was limited but they had plenty of plaid shirts which fit right into their aesthetic. Actually, plaid is a trend that I'm really loving right now like these finds (above) from Mod Cloth.

The tables at The Fieldhouse were brimming with vintage eye-catching props like these mid-century vintage Swedish La Petite safety matches. Not exactly vintage American, but placed around the store in crystal bowls they really added to the store's charm. It's funny how you see something for the first time - something's that's been around for a while - then suddenly that thing seems to be everywhere. You can find these at a number of stores online; just do a search for La Petite safety matches. Like at Hand Me Down Haven for instance.

I think vintage pieces make great decorative accents for your home. Like these finds from Kathy's Sewing Room. (photos above) I love the crackled paint on the vintage iron and the worn vintage boxes.

Nothing says vintage American country charm like good ole 100% raw honey. Found at The Fiedlhouse or online at World Pantry, the honey comes in interesting flavors like sage, sourweed, blueberry and buckwheat. Perfect for sweetening your iced tea this summer.
